The artistic director Antonio Spaccarorella, at the helm of the most important accordion festival & competition in the world, officially opens the 48th edition.
Registrations are now open to participate in the International Accordion Prize of Castelfidardo, the most important festival & competition for accordionists in the world, scheduled from September 13th to 17th in the Marche city, home of the popular instrument.
To give the official start to the 2023 edition, the number 48, the highly confirmed artistic director, Antonio Spaccarotella, for the third consecutive year at the helm of the prestigious event, promoted by the Municipality and Pro Loco of Castelfidardo, with the patronage of the Marche Region and Camera di Commercio of Ancona and the support of Amma (Marche Association of accordion entrepreneurs and craftsmen) and numerous other partners.
“The organizational machine – explains the artistic director Spaccarorotella – has already started. The most prestigious conservatories and the most authoritative universities in the field have been involved at the highest levels for the composition of the different juries in the competition. Even the obligatory piece, an original work commissioned every year, on which the three finalists of the Premio category compete, the most important of the Pif, has already been delivered to us. The author chosen for this edition is Martin Lohse, professor of composition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, one of the most accredited contemporary composers of accordion music. Maestro Lohse has given us a score of extraordinary beauty and unmistakable technique, written for solo accordion and symphony orchestra, which will implement the original literature of a relatively young instrument, thus trying to expand a still limited repertoire. In this context, the Pif, a festival with unique characteristics in the world, plays the central role of vehicle for promoting the accordion internationally and consolidating its identity as a ductile and multifaceted instrument”.
Strengthened by the great success of the public and critics and the record of members from all over the world, registered in the previous two years, Maestro Spaccarotella, holder of the accordion chair at the Conservatory of Music of Catanzaro P.I. Tchaikovsky and production director of the Calabria Philharmonic Orchestra, launches a new edition that promises to surprise.
Unpublished projects, shows rich in artistic contamination entrusted to great interpreters and rising stars of the international music scene, moments of encounter between music and auteur theater. With the accordion as the undisputed protagonist. These are just some of the ingredients thanks to which the Pif is once again preparing to amaze, transforming Castelfidardo into a global village of music for five days.
